Designed for youth entering grade 10, the CIT program incorporates one week at camp, and one week out of camp on a 200+ mile unforgettable bike trip.

What is the CIT Program?

The Camp Reed Counselor in Training (CIT) program is designed for kids entering their sophomore year of high school in fall 2024. This popular two-week program consists of a work week and a bike week. It is designed to provide a comprehensive youth experience in which each individual is encouraged to reach his/her full potential. The philosophy behind the Camp Reed CIT program is founded in an outdoor experience where the participant is challenged physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. It is fun, challenging and life changing!

CIT Leaders are experienced and mature Camp Reed staff who utilize group dynamics to encourage each participant to learn more about themselves and others in the group. CITs work as a team to develop leadership and teamwork.

In order for the CIT program to accomplish its objective, each participant is held to a high level of commitment and maturity because it is designed to transition youth from camper to future camp leader. Expectations are higher in areas of personal responsibility, maturity, and accountability; therefore, CIT Leaders treat CITs as young adults rather than campers.

Check out our video linked HERE for additional information on the CIT program.

2025 Exchange Program Dates: ON HOLD

Thank you for your interest in becoming a host family for the YMCA Camp Reed Exchange Program with our sister city of Nishinomiya, Japan. At this time, we are working through details in hopes of making a return to this wonderful program in future summers. We look forward to hopefully continuing this amazing program sometime in the near future. For more information about the exchange program or becoming a host family, please read below.

YMCA Camp Reed hosts twenty students and three teachers from Nishinomiya, Japan. Would your family be willing to open your home to two students before and after camp at the end of July and beginning of August?

If you are interested in hosting Japanese exchange students when this program returns and would like your family to be places on a contact list, please contact Kathy “Veggie” Beck, Camp Reed Office Assistant, if you, or anyone you know, is interested in supporting this unique program. If you have ever considered hosting an exchange student, but were concerned about the commitment, this program is a great introduction to cultural exchange. Host families and students enjoy experiences that will be treasured for a lifetime!

YMCA Camp Reed Financial Assistance Program

Frequently Asked Questions

Is financial assistance available?

Yes! Thanks in part to the generous donors of our Philanthropy in Action, we are able to offer financial assistance for camperships. YMCA Camp Reed is committed to ensuring every child has the ability to spend a fun-filled week at camp exploring, learning, laughing, playing, and much, much more.

To begin, please complete the Childcare & Programs Financial Assistance Application.

Note: The Programs & Childcare Financial Assistance expires annually and must be resubmitted each year. Assistance applies to the summer the child/children attend/s camp and is valid through the end of April each year.

Qualifying applicants may receive a discount on camp programs. Financial assistance must be approved prior to registering for camp. Email or drop off the form at any of our Branches. Please call 509 777 9622 for more information. For information on YMCA Membership financial assistance, please see our Membership For All program.

How early should I apply?

The earlier, the better. Sessions and programs can fill quickly and financial assistance funds are limited. Funds may run out. Please apply as soon as you are able to.

How much financial assistance will I receive?

We award financial assistance on a sliding scale, based on your household income and the number of people in the household. We award a 15-35% financial assistance discount based on this scale.

Financial assistance is not applied to store money or horse programming. If you currently receive financial assistance from YMCA of the Inland Northwest, the percentage that they award your family will also apply to your child’s Camp Reed registration.

If the amount of financial assistance you receive is not enough to enable your child to attend camp, please contact the YMCA Camp Reed Office to inquire about a campership.

What if my camper is interested in multiple weeks of camp?

In order to be able to give as many children as possible the opportunity to attend camp, we are only able to award financial assistance toward one session of summer camp per camper per summer.

How will applying for Financial Assistance affect my camper’s experience?

1 in 4 of our campers attends camp with the help of financial assistance. Receiving financial assistance will have no effect on your camper’s experience. Financial assistance is anonymous, and camp staff and campers are not told who is or is not receiving financial assistance.
