BBB Torch Awards

The Better Business Bureau recognizes YMCA as leader in marketplace trust

As the result of a very rigorous application process, the YMCA of the Inland Northwest is honored to receive the Better Business Bureau’s Torch Award for Ethics recognizing businesses and non-profits dedicated to integrity and ethical business practices. As a non-profit, cause-driven, and mission-led organization, the YMCA’s values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility are well aligned with the BBB’s eight principles of Building Trust, Honest Advertising, Telling the Truth, Being Transparent, Honoring Promises, Being Responsive, Safeguarding Privacy, and Embodying Integrity. These values allow the YMCA to deliver on our promise to strengthen the foundations of our community and to welcome all day after day and year after year.

The BBB notes, “The Torch Award is the most prestigious BBB award presented to exceptional organizations for their dedication to integrity and ethical business practices. Each year, Better Business Bureau holds open nominations and applications for the Torch Awards program throughout their operating area, acknowledging businesses that embody high standards of trust, performance, and integrity. Torch Award recipients generate a high level of trust among employees, customers and their community, and most importantly embody the BBB’s mission of advancing marketplace trust.”

Steve Tammaro, YMCA of the Inland Northwest President and CEO shared with staff and volunteers that “an award like this doesn’t happen by accident…it happens because we have boards that expect accountability and transparency and we work to those ends. It happens as well because we have a workforce that each and everyday lives our values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.”

Incoming YMCA of the Inland Northwest President and CEO Alan Lesher stated, “It is such an honor to be recognized for the commitment the YMCA has had for the Spokane and Sandpoint communities which has propelled us forward meeting needs, adapting to changing environments, and always, loving people since we began as an organization in 1884. We are a part of an amazing community of non-profits and businesses all driven to see the betterment of those we serve and we couldn’t be more proud to be recognized for this commitment.”
